10. What is a voucher?

A voucher is a certificate, which entitles you to purchase goods and/or services upto a specified value from a named merchant/group of merchants. We have an ever increasing list of merchants who are signing up to accept these vouchers. The vouchers do not expire; they can be used at any of the super market outlets across the country of your choice!

Unlike cash, a voucher can only be used at a designated merchant (supermarket/service provider, etc). Many of our senders and their recipients like the option of a voucher - it gives them the security of knowing, they can meet their home and household needs directly, without the temptation of diverting resources towards something else. Vouchers are a great financial convenience for many of our users.

A Money Transfer voucher is translated into the local currency cash equivalent

11. Do you deliver vouchers?

Yes we do! For all vouchers which cannot be delivered electronically (such as mobile airtime or money transfer into a bank account), we will deliver the order to your recipient's door-step provided you add the correct delivery voucher to your order.  If you do not add a delivery voucher to your order, your recipient will have to collect the order from our offices.  Choose the right delivery voucher depending on the destination and speed at which you want your order to be delivered.

Mobile airtime and Money transfer vouchers to Equity bank will be sent electronically. Please note that some mobile operators may levy a small fee and where this is the case, this fee will come off the value of the airtime you send.

Money transfers to other banks incur a 100/= local charge which our partners in Kenya pay when they withdraw the cash from Equity to go and deposit into your chosen bank account.

Special Request Deliveries – Ask us if you want something specially delivered.

12. Can vouchers be exchanged for cash?

Yes, vouchers can be exchanged for cash but only with the sender's authority.  However, if you want the recipient to receive cash we recommend using the money transfer vouchers - see money transfer category on the main menu under each country.

13. Can I exchange one set of vouchers for another?

Yes you can! You can exchange one set of shopping or mall vouchers for another but you the sender will have to authorise changes from one voucher category for another to ensure that the sender has control on how the vouchers are used. You the buyer can exchange one set of vouchers for another as long as they are for the same amount. Email support@payforthem.com to notify us and we will happily change your order.

18. What is MPESA?

MPESA is a money transfer service offered by Safaricom that allows a user with an MPESA registered SIM card to transfer money to other people’s SIM cards. While the Sender’s SIM needs to be MPESA registered, the recipient’s SIm card does not need to be registered. It does, however, need to be a Safaricom SIM card.

M-PESA is an innovative new mobile payment solution that enables customers to complete simple financial transactions by mobile phone. MPESA is aimed at mobile customers who do not have a bank account.

How it works via Payforthem Online

  • Send Money by making an MPESA purchase of any denomination you want at Payforthem.com. We will convert the total value of your selected vouchers into Kenyan shillings at the Sterling/Shilling exchange rate applicable on the date of purchase.
  • You will need to provide the recipient's details in kenya including names and crucially their safaricom mobile number to which MPESA will be sent.
  • Complete transaction by making payment via Debit or credit card in our secure payment center PAYPAL.
  • After that, we will process the transfer and once the order is complete, we will send you a follow up Email with an MPESA Tracking Number Provided by SAFARICOM informing you that we have completed sending money to your recipient's mobile phone.
  • The recipient withdraws cash at a local Safaricom MPESA Agent

Recipients do not need to have a bank account to benefit to receive MPESA. Cash is withdrawn from their handset at MPESA Agent outlets, scattered throughout the country. These outlets are typically local Safaricom Dealers, but can also be other kinds of retailer such as petrol stations, supermarkets and local shops. There is currently a large network of MPESA Agents across Kenya who are all trained to use the service.

For uptodate information on this service please refer to: Safaricom's Mpesa
